Surviving the Holidays with Braces
At Choonara Orthodontics, we're proud to offer some of the best in orthodontics in South Africa, servicing areas in and around Johannesburg, Sandton, and Randburg. We offer a wide range of effective braces that are sure to put you on the path toward a straighter and healthier smile. Unfortunately, while wearing braces, you'll have to be more careful about what you eat. This can be problematic at this time of the year because - besides getting to see your friends and family - one of the most important things about the holidays is the plethora of great foods that are readily available to eat! Don't worry though; as your provider of Sandton and Johannesburg braces, we're more than happy to give you a guide on some of the great foods that you'll be able to eat during the holidays as well as the ones that you'll need to avoid.
What Types of Food You Need to Avoid
When you're wearing braces, there are two general types of foods that you'll need to avoid. These types are hard foods and sticky foods. Hard foods can be problematic for braces because they can potentially break the brackets and wires of your orthodontics. Sticky foods can be harmful because they can get stuck in the braces and tug on the brackets and wires. Your orthodontist recommends that you avoid any kind of food that falls into one of these two groups.
