pasted image 0-2At Choonara Orthodontics, we're proud to help our patients achieve healthy, beautiful new smiles, and we strive to make the treatment process as convenient as possible for patients throughout the Johannesburg area. That's why in addition to offering popular treatment options like braces and Invisalign, we're excited to provide our patients with Propel accelerated orthodontic treatment: an innovative, advanced method for speeding up tooth movement and helping you achieve a new smile faster. But Propel has some important differences compared to traditional braces, and if you're looking to learn more about the difference between Propel and metal braces, we're here to help.

The Difference Between Propel and Metal Braces

Both Propel and metal braces work to help you achieve a new smile, but they serve different fundamental functions in doing so. Metal braces are the most common form of orthodontic treatment, using brackets and wires to gradually shift the position of the teeth and help you achieve a new smile. Propel, on the other hand, isn't an independent orthodontic treatment, but rather a supplement to treatment that helps accelerate tooth movement. In other words, Propel can't give you a new smile on its own – you'd need to use it in concert with another treatment, like metal braces.

Still confused? Don't worry, we can break it down for you. Metal braces:

  • Are an independent, freestanding orthodontic treatment.

  • Are our most popular orthodontic treatment.

  • Use metal brackets and wires to apply pressure and shift the position of the teeth.

Propel, on the other hand:

  • Is not an orthodontic treatment in itself – it cannot move teeth on its own.

  • Acts as a supplement to another treatment, helping to stimulate tooth movement and speed up the process.

  • Can help you achieve a new smile up to 50% faster.
