Now that we’re in the holiday season, there will be many parties and other get-togethers planned where lots of delicious foods will be served. If you’re wearing metal or ceramic braces, this is a time to be extra careful about what you eat. With so many tempting foods available including foods which are hard, sticky, chewy and crunchy, it’s very important to remember that these types of foods can damage or break your appliances. Even though you have to steer clear of these braces-busting foods, you can still have loads of holiday fun as long as you follow these simple tips.

Brush Your Teeth More Often

Because so many holiday treats are loaded with sugar, it’s a good idea to try to increase the number of times per day you brush your teeth. This will help prevent all that sugar from eating away at the protective enamel on your teeth to help you avoid the development of tooth decay which could derail your orthodontic treatment.

Remember To Avoid All the Foods That Can Harm Your Braces

When you first got your braces, you were given specific directions regarding all the different types of foods to avoid that can damage your wires and brackets. Before you sit down to enjoy a holiday meal or snack, think about which types of foods you can and cannot enjoy while wearing braces so you don’t eat something that damages your appliances. A good idea is find out what is being served at the holiday parties you will be attending so that you can bring along your own braces-friendly dishes if necessary.
